Style picks from the H&M Spring collection are perfect for Coachella

The Coachella Music Festival is happening now! West coast music lovers are already on high alert.  Coachella has grown from a indie fest with a hippie style to a fashionable occasion with retailers like H&M having  a major presence there.  So what are some of The Recessionista‘s top picks to rock out in the desert?   We love tie dye, color and cotton for Coachella.  Remember, it’s hot in the day time and cool at night.

  • Dress using layers When the sun goes down in the desert, temperatures drop. Be prepared for any weather by layering your wardrobe. Make the practical look chic by mismatching textures, patterns, and colors-the oh-so-boho vibe is sure to turn heads at the concert.  The Levi’s women’s authentic trucker jacket is a classic. Its lightweight cotton material makes it perfect for layering. We like it in the light destructed finish paired with a flowy dress or over a plain white t-shirt with a pair of colorful shorts. $98
  •  Coachella means color.   This season, there are many bold-but-beachy colors, like turquoise, coral, and mint in style.  There’s great color on the racks everywhere from the LOFT to the Gap to H&M, Zara, Modcloth and Topshop.  Check out Loft’s  Halter tops. they are perfect for Coachella day, for night cover up with a Tee or a 3/4 sleeve cardigan.  The ASOS tie dye dresses are perfect for Coachella.    For solid comfort, plus color, check out the  Gap T-shirts and T-shirt dresses.  A colored T-shirt dress is comfy and an easy one piece you can throw on.  Vintage themed shopping site Modcloth has a cute festival collection of light dresses, separates and even festival headbands. For Guys, the Jimi Hendrix Gap Tee or just a plain cotton tee is perfect for Coachella.
  • Dress for comfort with light fabrics offering plenty of ease.  If you’re going to the concert, remember, you could be standing for most of the day. Opt for flowing,  natural, lose fabrics and flat shoes are great ways to look great while staying cool and comfy.   A good maxi dress is perfect for warm days and cool nights.   Check out the H&M Conscious Collection for some earth friendly looks. Free People has some nice dresses, check out their Catalina maxi.  The flowy fabric gives you plenty of room for movement for $198, it’s bit pricey but a good dress for going to the concerts and then later the parties! A good looking lower priced option is the Romeo & Juliet adjustable colorful spaghetti strap dress for $76.00  For clearance prices, check the H&M sale racks.  There are cute dresses for $5, $10 and even $15.  TJ Maxx and Marshalls also have plenty of great maxi dresses.
  • Bring the best shoes you can pack, with the best soles.  Good footwear is so important. Be kind to your feet at Coachella. I say this as one who had foot surgery last year–don’t compromise your soles for fashion.  Uggs are always stylish and kind to your feet.  Seychelles’ Give Your Heart Away boots are on sale right now.

Are you heading out to the Coachella music fest? What are you packing?
