Fashion News: Joe Zee and the Blonde Salad Announce Design Plans
Would you buy clothes or shoes based on the style of an Elle Magazine Editor or a famous blogger? Well, you’ll have chance to find out soon as Elle ditor Mr. Joe Zee has announced plans to work with QVC on a fashion line and Chiara Ferragni of the Blonde Salad has announced plans to work with Steve Madden shoes. Once again, popular culture and social media give birth to “designers”, but will their offerings be worth your hard earned dollars? Here’s the scoop on the plans for both lines.
Elle magazine’s creative director Joe Zee is designing a fashion line for QVC that will premiere in February on QVC’s Oscar Red Carpet show. Our spies at Glam.com tell us that most of the collection will be designed by Joe Zee himself except for a “Lace dress from Edge by Jen Rade, a chiffon gown by Nicole Richie collection, a satin peplum vest by Logo by Lori Goldstein and a half-carat diamond ceramic watch by Isaac Mizrahi Live.” OK, so some of this is Joe Zee, some is culled from other QVC “designers.” Pricing is expected to range from $95.00 to $198.00. Those prices are comparable, and in some cases even more, than what H&M charged for established designer Isabel Marant’s recent fashion line for H&M.

As for Chiara Ferragni of the Blonde Salad she’ll be launching a line with Steve Madden shoes for Spring 2014. I witnessed Ms. Ferragni walking around at London Fashion Week last season backstage at the Topshop show in sky high heels and I can only wonder how she does it. Advance word on her collaboration with Steve Madden is that the line will feature a “gold leather slip-on sneaker to a buckle-laden heeled gladiator sandal and a pony hair open-toed booty.” The Blonde Salad X Steve Madden collection will be available in February 2014, and pricing will range from $129.00 to $179.00.
I’ll be interested to see samples from both lines in person and access their quality. The proliferation of celebrity labeled fashion lines never ceases to amaze me. Throughout the years, we’ve seen the good, the bad and the fugly of celebrity labeled fashions here at The Recessionista. Remember Mariah Carey’s HSN fashion line? And who can forget Tori Spelling’s jewelry line? With so many trained designers looking for work, it’s a bit sad that the celebrities get the fashion deals from large retailers.
