Los Angeles Designer Lauren Elaine Introduces Black Label Swim 2010

I was a big fan of Lauren’s Spring 2010 collection shown at LA Fashion Week.  Her designs are intricate and vintage inspired.  I love all the details on her dresses and tops.  So why is she venturing into the swimwear arena?   “I’ve always found it difficult to find swimwear that is unique and feminine without it being over-the-top or tacky. My aim when creating this collection was to take my design aesthetic from the Black Label dress collection, and apply it to swimwear,” says Elaine. “I wanted to give my suits an added regal touch while keeping them effortless- as no one wants to look like they’re trying too hard-especially while in a bikini.”

Based on last night’s show, I would say the designer accomplished her vision. I would wear the chic cover-ups with crisp white pants in the summer and sandals to show them off.  They are really well done.  According to swimwear consultant Maggie Read, who has worked on swimwear from Calvin Klein and Anne Cole, “It’s unusual to see so many well-done cover-ups in a swimwear collection. Most collections only feature one or two cover-ups,” says Maggie.  In addition to the luxurious looking cover-ups, there were also harem pants that could be worn over the suit bottoms that were very striking. You could definitely see the touches from the Black Label dresses applied to the swimwear.  Some of the designer’s gorgeous evening dresses were on display after the show too.  Below is one of the models wandering around after the show in the lovely one shoulder cocktail dress with the rosette trim in a stunning green.

Lauren Elaine appeared at the end of the show for her runway walk in a flowing, one shoulder Grecian inspired gown made of silk chiffon. She channed old Hollywood glamor in this lovely coral, summer gown.  The elegant pin tucks at the bodice reminded me of an old vintage pattern.
