Alice in Wonderland Inspires Fashion and Jewelry Designs
Once of my favorite tales from childhood has been updated and turned into a movie starring Johnnie Deep, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham-Carter. Some of you may recall that Alice fell down a rabbit hole and then later stepped through the looking glass to explore new worlds and magical adventures. All these adventures happened to her while she wore her blue pinafore, white blouse, white stockings and her black Mary Janes. The illustrator for the Victorian Lewis Carroll classics, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass was Punch cartoonist Sir John Tenniel. His illustrations for the original editions are some of the most famous illustrations in English literature. Now those beautiful drawings are the inspirations for the costumes in the new Disney movie and a fashion line designed by Sue Wong sold on website eDressme.com.
The Sue Wong Alice line channels some of the Victorian touches from the book and its pictures, but not the little pinafore Alice wore. The Sue Wong for Walt Disney line features lots of lace, rosettes and bubble skirts. Some of the looks are inspired by the White Queen (played by Anne Hathaway.) Check out the pictures of this collection. Its very Alice in Wonderland goes to the prom, goes to a wedding. Just my opinion.
The prices range from $329 to $609 and the clothes are now in high-end department stores such as Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Macy’s as well as online at http://www.suewong.com/ and http://www.edressme.com/
Ironically, I didn’t see any of the actresses in the film wearing the Sue Wong pieces tonight at the premiere. Helena Bonham-Carter stayed in character in this dress with a handbag showing the Red Queen on its face. Very Lulu Guinness.
What do you think readers? Are you anxious to get Alice in Wonderland fashions. My prediction: it will all go on sale 🙂
If you love Alice in Wonderland as I do, and the original illustrations, check out these beautiful and affordable Alice earrings from designer Anne Bocci. These are $35.00. What a beautiful homage to Sir John Tenniel.
The Alice earrings are available online at Anne Bocci Boutique and Gallery. And, there is more. Urban Decay has launched a line of Alice in Wonderland eye shadows and pencils. Its not available on their website, but I think Sephora is selling them. Check out the cool box!
