There are really some great picks here. Why do I love me some Vera? Because it’s stylish, beautiful and affordable. These are really her designs, not some apprentice using the Vera name. If you’ve seen her Lavender Label, then you know Simply Vera is true to her design vision and her patterns. I also have to give a big shout out on the fit. It’s well cut, not too tight and very flattering to the average woman’s curves.
Of note for Recessionistas, the Vera sale includes more than clothing, it covers her shoes, jewelry, home products and bags. I am also fond of her PJs –they are super comfy! Go forth and save.
Another designer on sale today is Alexander McQueen’s McQ collection at Target stores all over the US. I dropped by my local Target tonight to check it out on my way home from the gym. Sadly, I have to report, I was very disappointed. The collection is super trendy and features a variety of skull and cross bone tattoo prints . I must admit that “skulls” are not my favorite fashion accessory. Target Addict has already predicted on her blog that this collection will hit the Target sale racks, and I have to agree with her “learned” opinion. Here are a few pictures that I took at the store tonight to give you an “up close” flavor of this collection.
I went into the store to buy this Blue “sweater”, but after seeing it up close I passed. It’s not really a sweater at all. It’s a mesh top with peek-a-boo holes in it. For $44.99, I will have to pass. I have to say the color is really beautiful, but it’s not a must have.
Pictured: An up close shot of the “blue tatto” McQ T-Shirt shows : a skull with a pirate hat, mermaids, hearts with daggers and tumbling dice. Reminiscent of 19th century sailor wear. (Note: This is my own photo, not from Target.com)
There were several fashion faux pas in the collection, as mentioned in my previous post the black jumpsuit is a complete miss. The pink sleeveless dress with the skull accents is not something I would want to be seen in, even if Studio 54 were still open. Sorry, this Pink Tiger shift dress is not a must have. The short tuxedo jacket is cute, but again not a must have. (For the prices of this stuff, I could go back to the Loehmanns‘ sale and get something much more high-end.)
What I was impressed by at Target tonight was some of the new Merona stuff. If I was working for Target marketing, I’d be giving this stuff a big shout out and running a “vintage look” campaign around it. There are some very good looking affordable jackets and coats in this Merona collection. Here are a few pictures of those pieces.
But what do you think Recessionistas? Are some of you in love with McQ?
