London Fashion Week AW13: Burberry ‘Trench Kisses’ from London with Love
My Favs from the Burberry Prorsum Autumn/Winter 2013
Did any of you get the chance to see the Burberry AW13 collection show from London Fashion Week? If you missed it, you can catch the replay here on The Recessionista. The show was simply stunning. The trench coats from this collection were especially imaginative. The AW13 coats were beautifully accented with animal prints and embellishments. And the handbags. I covet them. Above is my aspirational shopping list from the collection. The collection whimsically entitled ‘Trench Kisses’ from London with Love was inspired by Burberry classics, sixties beauty Christine Keeler with set to sixties tunes like “So Happy Together.”
The show featured an array of styles including Trench coats, cabans, Chesterfields, topcoats, regimental greatcoats, column dresses, shell dresses and even cropped trousers. The collection was made from high-end fabrics including cotton gabardine, glossy cashmere, glossy calfskin and laminated python print leather. The color pallette was traditional fall colors of white, camel, oxblood, red, black, gold. The collection was accessorized by crush handbags, kitten wedges, animal print sunglasses and gold band belts.
The stunning conclusion of the show was a heartfelt performance by Tom O’Dell singing, “Hold Me” backed by a gospel choir in Burberry Trench coats. Now that’s subliminal marketing at its finest. Mr. O’Dell’s performance was nothing short of spectacular. The performance was not the type of thing you expect to hear in a fashion show. Once again, Burberry delivered the gold standard of fashion shows. The show production was flawless, and truly the clothes were breathtaking. There were few misses in the fashion line up- a rather strange striped jumpsuit stood out as an awkward choice.
For Burberry lovers, the show marked the launch of Burberry’s Runway Made to Order. Made to Order is a service that offers custom-made outerwear and bags from the collection featuring personalized engraved nameplates. Shoppers can order the runway coats and bags until early March on Burberry.com, for delivery in nine weeks. As for The Recessionista, I’m waiting for this collection to arrive in stores, and then go on-sale. The waiting is the hardest part.
