Even in a poor economy, we’re still shopping.   Here at The Recessionista, we’ve always said that shopping is psychological for women as well as a hobby or fashionable sport.  Feeling fashionable makes us feel good.   Now a new survey from Burlington (aka Burlington Coat Factory) confirms what we’ve always known.   Burlington asked 1,000 women across the US about how their outfit affects their confidence and found that in fact, style is everything.  Style plays a major role in how women feel – affecting their emotions, confidence and even their performance each day.  Read on to see the full survey results.

Burlington’s Survey has spawned a new advertising campaign: Style is Everything

The findings of the ‘Burlington’s Impact of Style Survey’ include:

  • 89% of respondents said if they feel good about the clothes they are wearing, it positively impacts the way they perform.
  • 85% state that, when deciding what to wear each day, how they feel in the outfit is more important than how others perceive them.
  • The survey found that clothing can strongly convey confidence.
  •  69% say feeling stylish in their outfit makes them feel “confident they can take on anything.

No surprises here darlings, if you look good, you feel good and that boosts your confidence.

*The survey conducted by IPSOS via Omnibus.  Sample size was 1,127 females between the ages of 21 and 49.
