Columbus Day has now become another American holiday more about shopping than perhaps the remembrance of its namesake: Christopher Columbus.  Whether you think Columbus was the founder of the new world, or a callous explorer who did a lot of damage to Native Americans, you may want to check out some of the retail deals in the build-up to Black Friday and holiday shopping.   This weekend’s sales include savings on fashion and home items, as well as handbags being promoted as part of the Oct. 10 National Handbag Day.  If you have time to visit the shops this weekend, here’s what’s on our pick list.
