In preparation for the Golden Globes, I was invited to the Colgate Optic White  Beauty Bar event at the Privé  Salon in West Hollywood.  Guest like Downton Abbey‘s Laura Carmichael (aka Lady Edith), Actress Lisa Rinna ,TV host Catt Sadler and bloggers  including moi converged on the salon to get glam with Colgate, Big Sexy Hair and make-up from Stilla and Maybelline.  While we were at the salon, Skinnygirl cocktails and wines were served.  To be honest, I don’t like all the alcoholic beverages in the Skinnygirl line-up, but the new  Skinnygirl Prosecco retail priced at $19.99 (less at Bevmo & others)  is a cheap and cheerful sparkling wine that’s light on calories and the wallet.

Skinnygirl Prosecco is a mere 100 calories a glass, saving 10 calories over the average Prosecco calorie count of 110 calories per glass.   Since Skinnygirl was acquired by Beam Spirits the brand now offers Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Grigio as well as the new Prosecco.  In my opinion, the Prosecco is the stand-out for taste and quality for price.   The Skinnygirl  Prosecco is 11% ABV (alcohol by volume) and is served in a 750 ml bottle. (Suggested retail price is $19.99; but I have seen it as low as $15.00)

The brand also offers specialty flavored vodkas as well as the original Skinnygirl Margarita.   The Skinnygirl Margarita was the drink that started  the franchise founded by “Real Housewife of New York” Bethenny Frankel.  I never cared for the Margarita.  To me it has a bitter taste and it’s not something I can recommend.   However, if you have a chance to try the Prosecco, drink-up.  Some have criticized Skinnygirl cocktails and wines as being too watery, but I didn’t feel the Prosecco was diluted.  Like any good Prosecco it has a light, crisp fruity taste that can be enjoyed on its own or as part of a festive cocktail.  If you’re looking for some bubbly for Valentine’s Day, and you like a sweeter taste than Champagne, this Prosecco is a good option.

Thanks to Colgate and the Beauty Bar for such a great event.   The  Privé  Salon Beauty Bar experts gave me a great look with the Big Sexy Hair products and some subtle Stilla make-up.  If only I’d gotten to see Laura Carmichael after her treatment.  She was almost unrecognizable as Lady Edith without her Downton Abbey marcel waves.
