The Genlux Britweek Designer of the Year Award Honors Matthew Williamson May 8th
Los Angeles is full of so many interesting surprises. We’ve got the fashion, the music, the entertainment, and sometimes the frugally fabuless! This week, The Recessionista is on high alert because it’s Brit Week. The Brits have invaded LA and it’s all good. I’m out scouring the shelves for the best tea and scones!
Many people don’t realize that there is quite a bit of British style and culture here in Los Angeles. Just take a walk down Second Street in Santa Monica past Ye Old King’s Head or the Tudor House tea rooms. In West Hollywood, we have Stella McCartney, Anya Hindmarch and Ted Baker on Robertson. Not to mention Burberry in Beverly Hills. British brands exemplifying UK fashion and lifestyle are well settled and loved here in Southern California. And now, we’re having a fashion show this weekend, honoring,….wait for it British designer Matthew Williamson. (Readers, did you wait in line when his H&M collection hit the Beverly Center, Fifth Ave or around the rest of the planet ? )
Here are the details if you are interested in getting tickets for the event on May 8th at Smashbox studios! The event will be Saturday, May 8 from 7-10 pm at Smashbox Studios 1011 North Fuller • West Hollywood 90046 Tickets are on sale now. If you’re not in LA, watch for information and pictures from the event via the power of social networking!
Now, a few words about British designer Matthew Williamson. If you’ve seen his clothes, you know he loves color. His designs make a splash. A graduate of Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design, Matthew interned under Zandra Rhodes and worked for Monsoon before rocketing to the forefront of British fashion with his own label. He has shown at London and New York Fashion Week for more than 12 years. This will be his first fashion show on the left, er west coast. Matthew, welcome to the Los Angeles runways.
The event will also honor the brilliance of the late Alexander McQueen with a retrospective fashion show of his work, including items that have never been seen on the runway. McQueen will always be remembered for his dramatic tailoring, new age kilts, and avant-garde shows. He is greatly missed.
Proceeds will benefit Dress For Success, a non-profit organization that provides the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and career development tools. Click here to participate in our Dress For Success Clothing Drive!
Get your party frocks ready, the British are coming!
