If you’re a Beatles fan like me, then you may know that today was Ringo Starr’s 70th Birthday. I took time to send Ringo his requested birthday present of a wish for Peace & Love today at noon, and do a little Tweeting. I was so glad to see Ringo become a trending topic today on Twitter with all the love pouring in.
It seemed like a great day to sport some Beatles fashion in the form of a Lyric Culture Tee shirt.  If you haven’t heard of it, and you love music, then you will want to check out this brand. Lyric Culture is the brainchild of the designer Hanna Schmieder.  Hanna told me she grew up with one ear glued to an old record player listening to The Beatles.  Her love of music inspired her to create this line of Tees inspired by artists like The Beatles, Carly Simon (You’re So Vain), David Bowie (Rebel, Rebel) and even the Supremes.  The shirts are colorful and allow you to proudly display your favorite artist’s work.  Unfortunately, they are not $10.00, so you want to choose carefully.  To find Lyric Culture for less, look on eBay.  There are a few listing. One of my favorites, is from a phrase coined by Ringo, “Hard Day’s Night” which was turned into a classic early Lennon McCartney song. I do hope Ringo has this one!

The Lyric Culture collection also includes denim, leather jackets, shorts, skirts, corsets and accessories like bangles and rings.  There are pieces for Women, Men and Children. Most pieces in the Lyric Collection are priced under $100.00, with the leather jackets being more expensive. Although some of Lyric collection is a little too rock star glam for my tastes, there are some pieces I really liked.  I would definitely wrap myself up in a Beatles Pink Love scarf (which I can’t find on their website, wish I could)  or the off-the-shoulder “You’re So Vain” T-shirt. I love the off-the shoulder look of the Tee as it can be elegant, or dressed up with some jewelry at the neckline for a party or night at Bar Marmont.

I also like the humor of the new Mrs. Robinson Tee. It’s so much better to conjure an image of Anne Bancroft as Mrs. Robinson, than be label a “cougar.” Bluck. Better to be Mrs Robinson.

I learned about Lyric Culture a few weeks ago when they hosted a Fall Preview party for Bloggers at their HQ, Peter Lawford’s old house off Sunset Boulevard.   Until the party, I had not seen much of Lyric Culture’s collection, although it is sold at Nordstorm’s, Fred Segal and in the UK at Harrod’s.  At the end of the preview party Lyric Culture  gifted me with a cool goodie bag featuring some of their Tees. My favorite items from the goodie bag were the bangles (Give Peace a Chance), Yellow Submarine Tee Shirt and surprisingly, The Shining Star Tee with the V-Neck. I picked up a Revolution Tee shirt for my friend who worked at EMI when The Beatles were there.  He was thrilled to learn that  John’s lyrics were on a shirt.  He was also thrilled to learn that the artists receive royalties for the lyrics printed on the shirt.  Afterall, that is their intellectual property.  As always, I like share the swag with my dear readers.  The readers rule! Without the readers, there is no The Recessionista.

So here is what you have the opportunity to win.  Unfortunately, there is no Ringo dedicated “It Don’t Come Easy” Tee.  Ringo, please have  your people call Hanna Schmieder about this! 🙂
