H&M and Do Something Partner for Garment Recycling

H&M’s Recycling Program a win for consumers & Mother Earth

Got a tee shirt with stains that wont’ come out? Or maybe a sweater with holes from moth bites?  Take it to your local H&M store. From April 17 to June 20, 2014 young people can participate in “Comeback Clothes” by collecting old and worn-out clothing in their schools and communities and then dropping them off in garment recycling bins at any H&M store. All brands and all conditions will be accepted. H&M will send these clothes to a recycling facility, where they will be given a new life. Although most fabrics can be recycled, 85% of all textiles end up in landfills each year–that’s 11.1 million tons, the equivalent of over 70 billion t-shirts.  That’s an astonishing amount of waste that is needless.

If you participant and recycle,  you may be eligible to win a scholarship. All participants that send a photo of themselves dropping off their unwanted clothing to Do Something will automatically be entered to win a $10,000 scholarship, and receive a 15% discount off their entire next purchase.  Watch the video with Oliva Wilde here to learn more about the campaign to recycle called “Comeback Clothes.”

I dropped off a bag of old clothes at my local H&M store last night.  The store manager told me you can drop off two bags per day.  When your drop off the clothes, you’ll receive a discount coupon good for your next H&M purchase.  Check out the new H&M Conscious Collection and the Collection exclusives at H&M to see how good recycled clothing can look.  There really is now reason to waste fashion.

Look for H&M mobile showrooms where you can drop off clothes to be recycled on these dates at these colleges:

• April 23-24 from 11AM-7PM at UCLA
• April 30-May 1 from 11AM-7PM at the University of Texas, Austin
• May 6-7 from 11AM-6PM at Penn State

Students dropping off clothes will have the opportunity to get stylized to star in their very own short video which will be featured on the H&M Loves Music Tumblr page.
