Inauguration 2013 Fashion: The First Family Goes Recessionista
I hope some of you watched the Obama Inauguration address today. It was inspiring to hear the President’s passion in his speech, calling for all of us to come together after the bitterness of the campaign last year.
The President made his intentions known through his words. Mrs. Obama was silent today, but looked beautiful and continued to make her recessionista fashion statement. She and her daughters turned out in American designers and the best of off the rack fashion from retailers (JCrew) and designers (Kate Spade, Thom Browne) we all know and wear. Michelle Obama chose a patterned Thom Browne coat along with her new bangs. It’s reported that underneath the coat, Michelle is wearing a Thom Brown dress and a Reed Krakoff cardigan.(Michelle wore a Reed Krakoff dress yesterday for the private swearing in.)
Here’s the scoop on Mrs. Obama’s gorgeous coat from the uber reliable, New York Times. “Thom Browne’s coat and dress for Michelle Obama are both made of silk jacquard based on a necktie fabric, custom made for the First Lady,” notes the New York Times’ Eric Wilson.
The first daughters joined the fashion show with their own style. Malia sported a pink J. Crew coat with coordinating violet tights. The little recessionsita, Sasha wore a periwinkle Kate Spade coat also with paired with contrasting colored tights.
They all looked fantastic. No word yet on Barack’s suit with blue tie that perfectly matches his wife’s coat. The first family looks smashing, and I love how they showed the world American style! It doesn’t have to be haute couture to look great.
