Jill Schulz of the Peanuts Family Gets Fashionable with Snoopy and Belle
The Snoopy and Belle fashion exhibit has been updated with new outfits for Snoopy and his sister and is on tour now in select locations across the US. Recently, I had the pleasure of touring the newly updated Snoopy and Belle in fashion exhibit and meeting Jill Schulz, the daughter of Charles Schulz the creator of the original Peanuts comic strip.
Although Charles Schulz was not a fashionista, Jill points out he was proud to participate in the original Snoopy and Belle fashion exhibit which launched in Paris in 1984 with fashions designed by Norma Kamali, Betsey Johnson and Karl Lagerfeld. Thirty years later, the exhibit has been updated with new designs from Dries Van Noten, Calvin Klein Collection, Isabel Marant & Rodarte to name just a few.
“Snoopy and Belle have been fashionable since the Paris Fashion show in the 1980’s. My dad attended the original exhibit. The new exhibit features new outfits by actress-dancer Jenna Dewan (Tatum x Danskin), costume designer Colleen Atwood and Rachel Zoe” said Jill Schulz, daughter of Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz. Designers Betsey Johnson and Diane Von Furstenberg.
I asked Jill what her Dad would think of the new exhibit. “He would love it. He was very excited for the original exhibit at the Louvre and he invited many of his colleagues and friends. He didn’t like to travel a lot unless he could be “home for noon.” So that was one of the few trips that he actually took overseas and was gung-ho to do. So I know he would love it. He always appreciated the use his characters in all different platforms whether it was film, TV, fashion exhibits or theme parks, although his main focus was the comic strips, ” said Jill Schulz.
There are a few highlights of the exhibit that Jill Schulz urges viewers to seek out. “The Betsey Johnson designs are timeless, the dress reminds me of the Betsey dresses I used to buy. The details on the Colleen Atwood costumes are amazing, even the little jacket Mad Hatter like jacket for Snoopy with the detailed stitching, and the pin on the lapel. The fabric for the jacket came from the same fabric they used to make Johnny Depp’s jacket. The Le Snob Snoopy and Belle dolls are dipped in gold, ” notes Jill.
