Earlier today I posted about Real Housewife of Atlanta’s Nene Leakes launching her new ShoeDazzle line. Nene announced her line on Twitter with a link to pictures of the shoes in her collection via Lockerz.  Since then, I’ve had comments and messages from several readers asking me about Lockerz. Although it’s been around since 2009, not everyone has discovered it.  Lockerz is a social commerce site that rewards users for doing things they normally do online (watching your favorite video, shopping, sharing photos with friends, etc.) Users earn PTZ (points) which drive down the price of items in the Lockerz shop.  Brands like Seven for All Mankind, Botkier handbags, James Jeans, Sanuck Yoga Mat shoes (a new love of mine)  Quiksilver, Nintendo, Xbox360, Wii, are among the offerings on Lockerz. For example a Theodora & Callum scarf that’s originally $175, can be reduced with Lockerz PTZ $87.50, a savings of almost $100.00  They have clothing, accessories, electronics, etc. You can also use Lockerz points for a gift card at Banana Republic, Pottery Barn, Macy’s, Bloomingdales or J. Crew to name a few merchants offering gift cards for points.  Needless to say, Lockerz could be a good deal readers of The Recessionista.

Is there any downside to using the social shopping tool? Well, Lockerz has been criticized for collecting some user information and buying patterns in exchange for offering points. However, is it really any different than using a club card to shop at a brick & mortar store in exchange for points? We all give some information away in order to get discounts.  Just do the research before you sign-up.   I joined initially with my Facebook account, but you can also join using your email.  I’ve been evaluating Lockerz to see if it really is a good avenue for getting deals. Honestly, it is taking me a while to get the hang of it.  I’m “grabbing” my finds and posting them, just like I use Pinterest to post pictures I like on my board.  Lockerz gave me 2500 PTZ to do the evaluation.  I’d like to share that benefit with some of my readers, so I’m giving away 2500 PTZ on Lockerz to five lucky readers!  Here’s what you need to do to enter.
