NY Fashion Week: Vintage Inspired Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s
I wasn’t expecting to like the Lauren Conrad show of her Kohl’s collection at New York Fashion Week, but I was pleasantly surprised. If you love vintage, and LC for Kohl’s has alway been “inspired” by vintage fashions, then you might want to check this one out. The collection is very feminine with lots of recreations of 1960s and 1970s style fashions paying homage to lace paneled short tops, Nehru jackets, swing coats, high waisted pants and floral maxi dresses. The collection is already in a Kohl’s stores, so after I saw the runway show, I paid a visit to my local Kohl’s store to check out the garments in person. For Kohl’s the collection is a definite cut above other Fashion Week collections they have done (namely from their ELLE line. ) Although the collection is heavy on White/Ivory (which is surprising for something coming into stores after Labor Day) this is a very pretty collection that I think a lot of women will like for special occasion wear, going right into the holiday season. Sizes for the collection range from size 2 to size 16 US. Check the pricing on items carefully in this collection, and do go to the store to see it in person. There are Lauren Conrad handbags in this collection for over $200.00, and even if they are leather, that’s a lot for something from Kohl’s.
In addition to the garments, there is a full range of accessories in the Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s collection from shoes, to headbands to jewelry that are also very good looking. The hair ornaments are perfect for everything from weddings to holiday parties.
The handbags, well they are reminiscent of those from more expensive luxury brands (especially the nude fold over top bag priced at an astonishing over $224.00 US ), but these look like fast fashion bags–it’s shocking to see Kohl’s charging $201.75–reduced from $269.00 for the LC for Kohl’s Leather CrossBody Bag in Floral. If you’re a lover of vintage fashion and old patterns, this collection will be of interest to you. Will Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s apparel last more than one season of wear and washing? That’s a maybe. This is all polyester blend stuff.
According to a press release from Kohl’s , pricing for apparel, shoes, jewelry and sunglasses ranges from $12 to $200 and handbags priced from $120 to $300. Seriously? If those are the real prices, that is laughable. I would not pay $200 to $300 for anything from Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s. Click on over to Nordstrom, Net-a-Porter or the Outnet when they have sales and get a luxury brand fashion item for that amount of money!
