New York Fashion Week: Naeem Khan Spring 2014 by Alexandra Lebenthal
From time to time I have a stark reminder that as a business woman I can’t fully enjoy all the opportunities that are given to me. I’ve been to enough shows to know that not only don’t they start on time, but they start really late! I was counting on that as I left my office at 2:00, thetime the Naeem Khan show was to start. At 2:30 as I got out of the cab at Lincoln Center I realized I might have a problem ! I sprinted with all the energy of an Olympian, but sadly the show had started. Good news though, I had an I unobliterated view of the monitor outsider the salon, and WOW! This was a Naeem show for the ages! Yes, he had a caftan or two, and yes, there was no shortage of his usual beading, but this collection had something really light, bright, and fresh to it.
I’m still drooling over a red beaded number, but that was something for the woman who wants a little bit of bling or someone who wants to walk in and blind everyone! I got a slight sense that Naeem might have been inspired by Dolce and Gabbana’s Byzantine collection last year, but he did it in his own way. All in all, I expect to see Naeem on the red carpet, at society benefits, and hopefully on our First Lady( who has worn him before.)
