New York Fashion Week: Noon by Noor Spring 2014 Simply Beautiful
Noon by Noor is, in my opinion, always one of the most beautiful shows at New York Fashion Week. The designers, Shaikha Noor and Shaikha Haya, produce intricate pieces with exquisite details. For Spring 2014, the collection was full of floral and leaf print as well as dresses enhanced with lace panels, floral appliques and ornate embellishments. Noon by Noor was inspired by The Tree of Life, a 400 year old natural wonder in their home country, Bahrain. “Spring 2014 is a continuation on from Resort but this season the collection is more polished and sophisticated with hints of that playfulness from the previous season, ‘ notes designer Shaikha Noor.
The Spring 2014 Noon by Noor collection looked versatile and luxurious, ranging from voluminous swing jackets and culottes to pencil skirts and dresses (full length, midi and short dresses.) Silk was the mainstay fabric of the collection because it is also a breathable fabric that works well in a hot climate such as Bahrain. This season, the designers have worked with a honeycomb lace and produced some pieces with lace and leather combinations for the first time, creating a great balance between sophisticated and sporty. As Shaikha Haya explains, “In addition to silk, we also like to experiment with leather and luxury skins (such as lambskin). For Resort, we used pink lambskin leather so this season we’ve continued with colored leather, but this time we’re using purple.”
The show concluded with a striking full-length gown with rosettes and intricate beading that was literally a showstopper. Noon by Noor is fashion as art at it’s finest. I’m always looking to find a few pieces on sale….it is one of The Recessionista’s epic quests.
