New York Fashion Week: Tracy Reese Spring 2014 Havana Hot
Designer Tracy Reese showed her Spring 2014 collection today at Lincoln Center to a standing room only crowd. Since Ms. Reese has begun dressing Michelle Obama, she is one of the most popular designers at New York Fashion Week. The collection was full of rich, bold colors and an Afro-Cuban influence which came through in the vibrant runway show and the live music accompanying the shows. The collection was rich in shift dresses, sleeveless dresses with full skirts ( a FLOTUS favorite) finished with crisp whites and a touch of lace.
The collection offered fresh, feminine styles and modern sportswear. Details included leather and raffia embroideries and authentic athletic accents. There was a range of diverse styles from crop-tops paired with full midi-skirts to cropped trousers to signature fit and flare frocks. Textile highlights included geometric laces, tribal embroideries and bonded technical knits. Prints, always a staple of Tracy Reese collections, included mixed scale gingham and window pane, tropical floral placements and tribal geometrics in a spectrum of pinks, blues, greens and ochre. Bold lapis dresses and a scarlet floral flyaway frock with back ruffle detail emphasized the hot Havana nights theme. This is an accessible, comfortable collection with something for every taste from subdued black and white separates to bring and cheerful dresses. It’s no wonder the First Lady is such a fan, Tracy Reese offers comfort and style, typically at a price that doesn’t break the bank.
