Advance review of Peter Som for Kohl’s DesignNation fashions
This week Kohl’s sent me a few samples from their upcoming capsule collection with Peter Som. I received samples of the two garments pictured above, the romper and the halter dress. I also received a tank top from the collection with a St. Barths inspired print on it. Overall, I’m very impressed by the prints, colors and the feel of the fabric (high grade polyester close to silk) that the designer has created here. It’s not easy to make a budget priced collection that looks good and feels good on the body. From the samples I received, I can say that fit will be inconsistent in this collection.
The Charmeuse Halter dress is a gorgeous print and I love the solid black print trim. However, it is completely oversized. You can see from the picture on the model that is is over sized and has no construction. There is a belt to use to tie it, but it does nothing to make the dress look a bit more fitted. Sadly, the result is shapeless. I wear a size 12 and this sample size dress actually fit me in size small because it is so loose. So, if you buy this online, buy a size smaller than you actually wear, otherwise, you’ll be swimming in this one. I paired the dress with leggings and flats to wear it as a tunic, since it doesn’t work as a well as a dress in my opinion.
The romper is more defined with a waist and a more fitted blouse type top. The candy strip print is very good looking. It’s very cute with a belt to emphasis the waist. The tank top I received with a pineapple print on it is cute and good spring/summer wear for running errands or hitting the beach. I’ll be interested to see more of the Peter Some collection when it hits Kohl’s stores on April 10th. I do like the prints and the comfort of the garments. Topshop brand ambassador and model , Kate Bosworth, was seen out an about in the button down shirt dress from the collection in New York City this week. The blue pattern on that dress is very striking. See the picture of Kate in Peter Som for Kohl’s below.
