SAG Awards 2013 Fashion: Award Season Recessionista Style
Last night’s Screen Actor’s Guild awards was a TV ratings bonaza. TNT reports that the show drew a record total of 5.2 million viewers. Social media networks were deluged as viewers shared their thoughts on the fashion, the red carpet and oh yeah, the awards themselves. Over 80,000 Tweets were generated yesterday with the hashtag #SAGAwards as social media mavens discussed everything from the gowns to the strange mannerisms of Giuliana Rancic, to their love for honoree (and new Twitter user) Dick Van Dyke. To me, it seemed that viewers are more caught up in watching the celebrities than finding out which films and TV shows are honored with acting awards.
There were some amazing gowns on the red carpet last night. Some of my favorites were Naomi Watts in Marchessa and Kerry Washington in Rodarte. Jennifer Lawrence’s tiered Dior gown seemed to rip when she walked to the stage, but it looked like the tier of one of her dress layers merely road up, revealing the thin fabric beneath, and then falling back into place. Not exactly the look , er wardrobe malfunction, that you expect from a custom Dior gown.
Jennifer Lawrence, Amanda Seyfried and Nicole Kidman all wore gorgeous midnight blue (navy) gowns for the awards. If you like that look, check out White by Vera Wang’s One Shoulder Satin Dress with Asymmetrical Skirt for $168. White by Vera Wang is available exclusively at David’s Bridal.
Another look for less from the SAG Awards was the Bobbin Net Dress with Illusion Neckline worn by Anne Hathaway. Anne wore a Giambattista Valli with the Illusion Neckline in black. The White by Vera Wang Illusion Neckline cocktail dress, retails $168. The skirt is not sheer, making it a bit more practical for everyday wear.
One of my favorite award season designers has been Jenny Packham. Kelly Osbourne looked elegant at the SAG Awards in a Jenny Packham gown. JS Collections sells a similar dress for about $310.00 at stores like Nordstroms. The JS dress doesn’t have all the vintage type details around the neckline, but it’s very elegant and comfortable looking with its loose fit.
What do you think readers? Any favorites from last night’s red carpet?
