Say it ain’t so: Walmart Buys Vintage Inspired ModCloth

By  |

It is with shock and dismay we have to report that Walmart has purchased ModCloth.  ModCloth, the online only vintage shopping destination built on community reviews is as chic as Walmart is cheap.  Many ModCloth shoppers are not happy about this acquisition, with some ModCloth customers reporting they have already deleted the ModCloth app their phones upon hearing the news.

Expect ModCloth’s selection of party dresses and other items to change.

ModCloth customers have already taken to Twitter to share alternative places to shop because they do not wish to support Walmart’s perceived anti-union, anti-small business policies.   Twitter users are already posting the lists of brands that ModCloth supported so that customers can buy direct from the brands before Walmart changes the selection of sellers.

My take: if they’re is something you like at ModCloth grab it quick.  The quality and the styles will change as Walmart moves in.  Why did Walmart acquire ModCloth? Retail analysts think it’s to compete with Amazon fashion. Will it work? Watch this space–it depends if Walmart can maintain the uniqueness of ModCloth’s inventory and style.
