If you watch the Olympics Closing Ceremony tonight. you’ll see not only some of England’s best musical performers, but some of it’s top fashion designers and models.  The Olympic stadium briefly turns into a fashion runway as images of top models in British fashions are wheeled out on large rolling boards, followed by the models themselves.  All the action is set to the tune of David Bowie’s classic “Fashion.”

Personally, I was disappointed that Bowie didn’t appear to sing live but my spies in Los Angeles, who worked with Bowie when he was at EMI, said he never really likes to perform live. So instead of David, here’s who you’ll see:

  • Naomi Campbell  in Alexander McQueen  Gold Metal embroidered dress with train
  • Kate Moss in Alexander McQueen Gold sequined full-length dress
  • Karen Elson in Burberry Gold lace evening dress
  • Stella Tennant in Christopher Kane Metal mesh and Swarovski crystal trouser suit
  • Lily Cole in Erdem Gold embroidered and lace cocktail dress
  • Jourdan Dunn in white and Gold leather dress by Jonathan Saunders & Stephen Jones Gold feather headdress
  • Georgia May Jagger in Victoria Beckham Gold metal fabric cocktail dress
  • Lily Donaldson in Vivienne Westwood Gold lace gown
  • David Gandy in Paul Smith Gold Suit and tie

It’s quite a display and a homage to some of the world’s best designers.  British Vogue and the British Fashion Council worked on this show to put British fashion in the spotlight before a worldwide audience. It’s very smart marketing on their part.  “The most innovative and iconic fashion designers and models in the world are British and so this ceremony would have been impossible without them at its heart,” said Kim Gavin, Creative Director of The Closing Ceremony.  Psst, Kim, wouldn’t it be even more brilliant if they sold H&M priced versions of the fashions after the games? Now that would help the British economy me thinks!
