Tracy Reese Fall 2014 Includes Washable Fashion
Today’s Tracy Reese Fall 2014 fashion show bought some warmth to a very chilly New York Fashion Week season. The show mixed loud and ecstatic styles against pragmatic and quietly complex styles to create classically modern silhouettes. Ms. Reese, a favorite of Mrs. Obama, mixed utility pieces with unique elements that provided pops of personality and spirit. And for the first time, a leading fashion designer has partnered with a well know household brand, Tide, to promote “washable fashion.” The move to promote clothes you can throw in the wash and wear makes sense as the buying public’s demand for designer fashions continues to grow. The setting was informal and relaxed as celebrities Condola Rashad, Rhonda Ross, Denise Vasi, Lauren Scala & June Ambrose were in attendance to support Ms. Reese.
Collection highlights included menswear inspired silhouettes, oversized embroidered sweaters, fringe detailing, gold and gunmetal beading and lamé and heathered tweet knits, anchored by a palette of playful colors tempered by neutral, muted tones. A highlight of the show was a metallic anorak paired with a sexy slip. Playful collection accents included metallic leathers, ostrich trims, jeweled and feather details. Overall the collection was very accessible with the accents adding just a hint of sparkle and shine.
For the fall 2014 season, Tracy Reese partnered with Tide Pods and the CFDA’s Washable Fashion initiative. The initiative seeks to inspire more designers to create garments using washable fabrics. As part of her Fall 2014 collection, Ms. Reese designed two completely washable looks. “As a designer, it is very important to me to create garments for real women, in fact it’s something I take a lot of pride in,” says Tracy Reese. “And real women do laundry, so it only made sense for me to extend that consideration to how they care for my pieces. As I learned more about Tide Pods® and the comprehensive research and development that goes into ensuring their performance, I was inspired to rethink the idea of washable in my own designs. I have come to believe that just because a garment is made from washable fabrics doesn’t mean it has to sacrifice anything in terms of design.”
The two garments made with washable fabrics are pictured below.
The washable looks included from left to right:
- Look 1: Tee & Cargo pant, paired with a Rose Sweater
- Look 2: a Washable Sweater and Print Skirt.
These looks were created in cooperation with Tide and were tested as machine washable using Tide Pods.
