Travel: Titanic Replica to Relaunch as Titanic II
Would you pay big bucks for the chance to experience the luxury that the fabled and tragic Titanic luxury liner is said to have offered the upper class? Professor Clive Palmer and his Blue Star Line company held a press conference this morning to announce a Titanic relaunch. My jaw dropped when I heard the news, and the prices. Here’s the story. Professor Palmer wants to rebuild the tragic ship and then sell tickets of it for a cruise from Southampton England in 2016. According to the uber reputable Mashable, “The area [for] passengers will be authentic with the same design and facilities, but there will be modern things such as air conditioning and other features we are debating, such as Internet on the ship,” Palmer said at the press conference. “I’m against it. I think you should relax on vacation. There won’t be TVs in the state rooms though.”
It is reported that some Titanic devotees have already offered close to 1 million dollars to have the privilege of setting sail on the ship’s maiden voyage. There will be three classes of travel, just as there were on the original Titanic. But really, who would want to sail in the steerage (lower class) on their vacation? Personally, this idea seems ghoulish to me. This is no ordinary luxury cruise, this is recreating a luxury liner that meet with tragedy on which thousands of people died. What do you think readers? Would you pay top dollar to board Titanic II?
