Hot off the press from La La Land in the village of Beverly Hills–two dresses worn by Princess Diana have sold for a record $276,000 at an auction in Beverly Hills yesterday   From a news release, Darren Julien, president and CEO of Julien’s Auctions, said  that a black crepe evening gown Diana wore during a state visit in 1992 fetched the higher price of $144,000. A light blue strapless gown with accompanying stole sold for $132,000 and was worn on three occasions, including at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival.

The dresses were designed by Catherine Walker.   Sadly, the designer Catherine Walker recently died. I’m sure all the recent hype around the royal wedding helped to send the dresses worn by the late people’s Princess in the the economic stratosphere.  Remember, Kate Middleton’s mother wore Catherine Walker at the recent wedding, in a discreet tribute to the late Princess. While both Catherine Walker’s dresses from Diana’s wardrobe were exquisite, the style comes from the Princess herself.  The price tag is cheap for all the magic she possessed.
