Yes We Can! Go to Milan for Fashion Week via Burberry’s Website
This Saturday, Menswear Fashion Week starts in Milan, Italy. One of my favorites, the fabu 00o00 will be attending live in person. The chic one will be jetting in from snowy London. I picture him stylishly sipping expresso and wearing one his vintage auction finds. Meanwhile, The Recessionista will be beaming in from Los Angeles via the magic of the Internet. How does such a thing happen, when we’ll be miles apart across the Atlantic? Technology makes it all possible. Burberry will be live streaming its Burberry Prorsum Autumn Winter 2010 menswear show live from on Saturday at 6PM (Milan time) (GMT+1) on http://live.burberry.com. How cool is that? Not only can I see the show from LA, I will be able to comment via Twitter or Facebook on the collection. Menswear is not a major focus for me, but everynow and then I have been known to shop for the BFF at Burberry. He likes their classic styles and tailored fit. I spot the styles in the shops, and then later look for better prices on eBay or at the Burberry outlet stores.
Now, back to the show in Milan. I forgot to mention, everyone is invited! There is no elite guest list on the Internet. Check out your invitation from Christopher Bailey, Burberry Chief Creative Officer, to attend the show. I knew there was a reason Queen Elizabeth appointed him a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). I think Mr. Bailey, MBE, is a fashion marketing mastermind. How innovative to stream the show on the Internet and create The Art of the Trench social networking site to show off Burberry fashions in a new way.
It will be interesting to see if other shows from New York Fashion Week (coming in February) will be shown on the Internet by the design houses themselves (not just QVC.) I’m looking for something similar maybe from Norma Kamali since she has always been on the cutting edge of Internet fashion shows. Ms. Kamali was a pioneer in making fashion videos and then later showing those videos on the Internet. Last fall, she showed her collection at the Apple Store in New York. I look forward to more events like these. After all, the shows shouldn’t just be for an elite collection of editors, but for the people who actually buy and wear the clothes.
