H&M Previews Bizarrely Sporty Alexander Wang Collab
H&M and designer Alexander Wang previewed their new collaboration on runway at the Fort Washington Avenue Armory in New York City. The entire show was livestreamed on HM.com and you can watch the replay on of the Alexander Wang X H&M show at your leisure via the web. I watched the show from Los Angeles and read about it in The Guardian this morning. To be honest, I’m not feeling this collection. It’s a cross between bondage gear, athletic wear and what Jezebel calls “funky scuba wear.” Personally, I don’t want to dress like a funky scuba diver, so I don’t think I’m going to line up for this one. Read on for more pictures from the preview.
Some of the pieces in this collection include cuba dresses, thick gray pullover sweatshirts, mesh-paneled leggings, cropped bra-tops, leather joggers, and parkas. They are also boxing gloves, beanies and duffels with WANG branded prominently on them (see picture above.) When I was at University my English Literature teacher Dr. Romano caught me wearing a pair of designer jeans and reminded me that “wearing the name of your tailor on your person is very bad taste.” I think H&M should have a chat with Dr. Romano, because I do think the WANG branding here is in very poor taste, and not attractive. It screams, we’re IMPORTANT, we’re wearing WANG. It’s not impressive, it’s obnoxious.
Bottom line, I don’t care if this stuff is .99 cents or 99 dollars or 199.00 dollars, this is a pass. I’d rather save up for something special than buy several pieces of neoprene or faux leather garments from Alexander Wang x H&M.
What do you think readers? Right now, I’m more interested in the H&M 70% off sale than this forthcoming designer collection.
