Perfumer Jo Malone Launches Jo Loves and an Autobiography
Perfumer Jo Malone is known to most of us as the genius behind her namesake fragrances. Ms. Malone created some of the world’s most-loved and recognizable scents and the she sold her brand to the Estée Lauder Companies, remaining on as creative director. Now Ms. Malone returns to the spotlight this month with a new autobiography and the launch of her new Jo Loves fragrance line.
Her autobiography is entitled simply, JO MALONE: My Story. Her story is an inspiring one, particularly for women entrepreneurs. Ms. Malone began her international fragrance and scented candle business at her home, from her kitchen. She began by making bath oils as thank-you gifts for her facial clients. Along the way, Ms. Malone faced many challenges which she shares in her memoir. The memoir details the personal highs and lows of her journey to international brand prominence. From humble beginnings, Ms. Malone was raised in government-subsidized housing and struggled in school because of severe dyslexia. Unable to keep up with the demands of her education, coupled with her mother’s declining health, she dropped out and decided to try her hand at an at-home beauty business.
After years of hard work and the global success of Jo Malone London, Ms. Malone’s world was thrown when suddenly, at only 37 years old, she faced a harrowing breast cancer diagnosis. Given just nine months to live, she underwent treatment in New York and survived a double mastectomy, and thus began the second chapter of her life—which most recently includes the launch of her new luxury lifestyle fragrance brand Jo Loves. The brand is growing quickly and is newly available in the US via her Jo Loves website.
A very unique feature of Ms. Malone’s book is the opportunity to sample her new scent. The book includes a scented page of Pomelo, the first fragrance she created for Jo Loves. Readers can simply rub their hand over the page to release the fragrance and bring the clean, grapefruit-infused citrus scent to life.
I’m in London this week, and hope to try a sample of Pomelo myself. Stay tuned for details!
