Despite US Boycott Ivanka Trump Brand Sales are Strong
Although many US shoppers have boycotted the Ivanka Trump fashion brand (and its designer knock-offs) the brand experienced record high sales in early 2017. Since White House Press Agent Kellyanne Conway urged shoppers to buy Ivanka’s brand, the popularity of the brand has increased with strong sales from China leading the way. According to AP News ” Sales hit record levels in 2017, despite boycotts and several stores limiting her merchandise. U.S. imports, almost all from China, shot up an estimated 166 percent last year.”
Research from fashion site Lyst shows that sales of Ivanka Trump’s brand sales surged Feb. 9 & 10 after Kellyanne Conway shamelessly plugged the collection on Fox News on Feb. 9th and urged consumers to go out and buy some. ‘It is just a wonderful line,” said Ms. Conway. ” I own some of it. I fully, I’m going to give a free commercial here. Go buy it today, everybody. You can find it online.’ Although this would appear to be a clear conflict of interest, Ms. Conway does not appear to have been sanctioned for it, and her comments were successful in raising revenue for Ivanka Trump.
Despite Ivanka Trump brand items being pulled from Nordstrom, TJ Maxx and others many retailers continue to carry the brand including Amazon, Belks, Bloomingdales, Macy’s and Zappos. Research shows that a good part of the brand’s 2017 sales are coming from China, where Ivanka Trump’s brand was recently granted trademarks.
What does the future hold for the Ivanka Trump brand? It’s not yet clear, although US consumers continue to boycott the brand and it is no longer a top seller in the US.
