Christian Dior “New Look” Sketch Goes On Sale
An early Christian Dior “New Look” sketch just went on sale for a mere $12,500 USD. TMZ reports that auction site “Moments In Time” is selling Christian’s original drawing from 1947.” Fashion lovers may remember that Christian Dior ‘s “New Look” featured full skirts and used yards of fabric. The “New Look was a response to the austerity of the WWII years where fabric shortages and rationing were common place. Christian Dior was determined to give women a “New Look” after the somber styles of World War II by bringing out a collection full of cinched waists, full skirts, and jackets with big buttons. The “New Look” celebrated not just that women could wear more fuller fashions because the war time shortages were over, but also the female shape or hourglass figure.
The sketch, with a handwritten note from Christian that reads “the new look 47 tian dior,” was acquired from descendants of a film director who worked with the fashion designer. The famous sketch, the first step in Christian’s breakthrough “New Look” collection, influenced the way women dress forever.
Dior remains an empowering fashion bran. Today A-listers like Emma Watson, Rihanna, Mila Kunis, Jennifer Lawrence, Felicity Jones, Emma Stone and Natalie Portman are known for their love of Dior.
