At Last: The Inauguration Ball Comes Alive. Michelle’s a Vision in White!
The waiting is over. The inaugural gown has been revealed, and I love it! I’m watching the Obamas dance while Beyonce’s sings the classic “At Last.” What a graceful and beautiful moment. The way her long train is twirling as she dances is like an old Ginger Rodgers or Eleanor Powell ballroom dancing scene. Michelle is wearing a white chiffon, one-shoulder gown covered in rosette like appliques and beading by Jason Wu (former Tim Gunn student at Parson’s). The waiting is over, the first lady of style has arrived!
Earlier today, she wore an lace overlaid Isabel Toledo coat and sheath dress. I read that 13 seamstresses worked to make that dress through the month of December and that the coat was lined in Pashmina. While the dress was high-end couture, true to her Recessionista roots, Michelle complimented it with green J. Crew gloves. Nice touch. Once again, she made fashion accessible by wearing pieces that all of us can enjoy.

Rock on Recessionista!
For more information on Michelle’s inaugural style check Robin Given’s column from The Washington Post. Ms. Given points out that Mrs. Obama has helped both Jason Wu and Isabel Toledo achieve name recognition in a tough economy without spending millions on advertising. What a great gift she gave these two designers.
