No Doubt and Fred Perry Team for Fashion Collaboration
Rock Bands and Fashion have sometimes made successful fashion partners. Consumers often aspire to look as cool and edgy as their favorite rock bands. With that formula in mind, British fashion brand Fred Perry has announced that they will be partnering with Gwen Stefani’s fronted No Doubt band for a fashion collaboration. There’s no doubt that the untimely passing of singer Amy Winehouse left a hole in the Fred Perry catalog. So what kind of fashions can we expect from this partnership? I’m seeing sweaters and jackets. According to the Fred Perry website, the collection is inspired by the band’s “ska and reggae roots.” The website marketing copy touts this collection as an extension of ” Fred Perry’s unique relationship with subculture.” Looking at some of the preview picks, the sweaters look more preppy than reggae. So much for subculture. Fashion lovers take note, these pieces are not inexpensive.
According to WWD, here’s some of what the collection will offer. There will be a” slim-fit shirt, retailing for $95, for both men and women with signature tipping detail on the sleeves and collar in a reggae-inspired dark gold, red and green.” There will also be a limited-edition Fred Perry shirt coming in early January. Taking a page from the Amy Winehouse Fred Perry formula, there will be a ” punk-inspired tartan-check V-neck sweater, $170, and Fifties bomber, $250″ coming in Spring 2013. Three of the collection pieces are already online at Fred Perry’s website and customers can register their “interest” to pre-order. What do you think readers, will you be signing up to the Fred Perry wait list? Are you dying for No Doubt V-neck sweater? It’s not exactly cutting edge in my opinion.
