Last week the former star of The Hills, Whitney Port, presented her fashion line Whitney Eve at New York Fashion Week. Her spring collection featured everyday wear from convertible party dresses to charming menswear-inspired pieces complemented by alluring colors and original patterns. The emphasis was definitely on comfort with a playful twist.

Perhaps just as interesting as the show itself was the way the former TV star sought funding to show at Fashion Week. The realty,TV star, now designer, turned to crowd-funding site, Indiegogo to raise money to fund her label and her show. ‘I’m doing something that’s never been done before: the first-ever fan-supported fashion show at fashion week in New York,’ noted Ms. Port in a video that accompanied her pleas for financial help. If you watch the video, note she says “crazy” at least 5 times. Fashion Week is like crazy. And she’s been working like crazy on it. Crazy. Like it or hate it, you have to admit this is a novel approach to seeking capital. Ms. Port’s pleas was successful in raising funding. According the the Indiegogo web page results Ms. Port raised over 10,000. What do you think readers? Would you contribute to the funding of the Whitney Eve clothing line, or do you think Whitney should have more privately attempted to secure funding?
