The Recessionista Newswire! Fashion Stories Spanning the Globe

As always, there’s a lot of interesting goings on in the world of lower-priced fashion lines, but there are a few stories and deals this week that fascinate me. Vintage styles are really making a big comeback.
That’s why Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant has designed a capsule collection for Banana Republic. Ms. Bryant gave the New York Times the low down on the collection. She says, “‘A lot of the pieces I brought to Simon [Kneen, Banana Republic’s creative director] and the design team were pieces from the show, some I designed, some vintage. A dress my grandmother made is an inspiration for a beautiful, beautiful dress.” Wish I knew which dress that was. The collection will be in stores on August 11, but Banana Facebook fans can order it earlier (Aug. 10) via Facebook. A nice perk for social media BR fans.

For more vintage inspiration, check out how vintage expert blogger GlamAmor describes how Kim Kardashian channeled the look Helen Rose designed for Elizabeth Taylor in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Look at the pictures above, and see the resemblance for yourself.

Now, let’s go from the past to the future, Target Addict reports that the August issue of Vogue has the Missoni for Target Look Book. The prints look beautiful, and there is even a bicycle ala the Liberty of London collection.
My final tip, if you’re looking for end of season summer fashions on clearance, check out the sales on MNG by Mango and I Heart Ronson at JC Penney plus French Connection (FCUK) at Sears. Many of the dresses are just $20.00 or less.
