Last night I was treated to a special preview of the new Banana Republic Mad Men collection designed by the show’s brilliant costume designer Janie Bryant. The collection went on sale last night online, although the official launch is today,  and items are already selling briskly.  I like this collection, although I didn’t have the opportunity to personally try on the pieces, but I will and when I do, watch this space for my review.  What I like about the collection are the fabrics, and the tailored silhouettes designed to compliment a woman’s “hour glass” shape and the cinched waist bands, emphasizing the smallest part of any woman’s shape.

The price point for the collection ranges from $49.50  for the lace shell to about $150.00 for one of the dresses.  The dresses are very well done and can take you from work to cocktails. This is not Jason Wu for Target readers, it’s much better made and a better value for the price.  Consequently, it is more expensive than the Target collection, but you get what you pay for as the old saying goes.

My favorites were the Joan sheath dress, pictured above, and of course the Bette dress in pink.   The prices for the menswear are slightly higher, with jackets priced at $250.00. If you like this collection, here’s a little savings tip. If you are a Banana Republic or Gap cardholder, you can save 25% off the retail price now using code: BRMAD25.  If you don’t have a Banana card, you can open one at the store, and save on your first time purchase.

I know some dresses sizes are already sold out on line, but check out your local store, there are still plenty of clothes in stock from what my sources are telling me.  I haven’t heard of any eBay type hoardings or store clear outs yet. 🙂  If you’ve already bought some of the collection , leave a comment and let me know what you picked up and why you like it.
