Eschew Material Things with the Material Girl Collection at Macy’s

By  |

In case you haven’t heard Madonna’s Material Girl line is launching tomorrow at Macy’s. Here in Southern California Macy’s is doing a launch event for the Material Girl collection (the collection designed by Madonna and her daughter Lourdes). The first 200 customers to shop the collection at Macy’s Glendale Galleria 10am on August 3rd will receive a free Material Girl bandeau top.  Check your local Macy’s for their version of this offer.  Am I excited about this? In a word no.  I saw Suddenly Susan, I don’t need to wear it. I don’t know why anyone would want to pay money for this collection, when there are so many beautiful clothes on the market from really talented designers. There are better Junior collections.  If this line wasn’t celebrity labeled would anyone care? I think not.  If you like the look, go grab your favorite plaid shirt and an old tulle skirt from the Goodwill.  There is nothing fashion forward here–just recycled styles from the 80s.  If only clothing from the 80’s had really been recycled, then this rot might have been somewhat palatable. At least there would’ve been less junk landing in the world’s landfills. What’s next the Material Guy line of leather studded vests from Billy Idol? Eschew these material things. You’ll feel better and your wallet will be fuller. I like Macy’s stores, but this is not their finest moment.
