Fashion & Technology: The Dell XPS tablet with Windows 8 Makes it Work!
During my recent trip to New York Fashion Week, I took a break to stop by the Dell Lounge. After all, a woman can’t live by fashion alone! As a blogger at fashion week, it’s so important to have access to reliable tech devices in order to report all the action from the runway. This year, with a blizzard and inches of snow literally breaking into the tents at fashion week, technology became more important than ever. Many people, even New Yorkers, couldn’t get to New York Fashion Week due to lack of transportation, so they stayed in to watch via the Internet. I felt I had more people following my Twitter updates @Recessionista than ever before. So how did I successfully report on the fashions while trapped at Lincoln Center for long periods of time? I was glad to get some tech support from a new friend, the Dell XPS tablet. This is a tablet that doubles as a laptop.
I meet with Dell representatives at their lounge at Fashion Week, and was glad I took the time. With a simple introduction to the lightweight Dell XPS Tablet, I was able learn Windows 8 in no time and get up to speed on how to use this convenient little tablet that doubles as a portable laptop with fully functioning keyboard. Best of all, the Dell XPS 10 tablet with keyboard closes into a handy carry case that fits neatly into your handbag. I’ve been test driving the Dell XPS Tablet with Windows 8 since New York Fashion Week and here’s what I’m loving about it:
- Compact, easy to carry device loaded with Microsoft Office. When traveling on business, it’s great to have Office at your fingertips to get int Word or even Powerpoint
- Two cameras, one on the rear and one on the front, perfect for photographing or making videos for runway reporting. The camera is a 5 MP digital camera with auto-focus for easy point & shoot. There’s also a 2 MP webcam on the tablet enabling easy participation in video chats, Skype or Google+ Hangouts.
- Large colorful tiles or tabs on the tablet’s home page that allow you to connect easily to applications, search and your social networks.
- Long battery life, which is important for making it through the blogging marathon of Fashion Week. I have been able to run the tablet for about 24 hrs before it runs out of juice.
Bottom line, the Dell XPS tablet is a great tool for any blogger or business user. I still use my iPhone and my iPad to access the many apps available only to Apple users like Instagram. However, it’s good to augment the Apple apps with the Windows apps and Microsoft Office, especially if you are doing writing or blogging. The cost for the tablet is recessionista approved at the Dell price of $499.00.
Note: In the interests of full disclosure, I want my readers to know that Dell provided me a Dell XPS tablet for review purposes. I have not received any monetary compensation from Dell for this review and this is not a sponsored post. I am not a product ambassador for Dell.
