H&M Announces Retrospective Book on Designer Collabs
H&M has announced a new book available in select stores on November 6th to coincide with their Alexander Wang x H&M launch. Entitled, The First Ten Years, this one-hundred and forty page collector’s edition will feature the designs and imagery from Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolf, Roberto Cavalli, Commes des Garcons, Matthew Williamson, Jimmy Choo, Sonia Rykiel, Lanvin, Versace, Marni, Maison Martin Margiela, Isabel Marant and Alexander Wang. The book will retail for $34.95, available for purchase November 6, 2014 at select H&M store locations throughout the US. 25% of the cover price will go to UNICEF.
I’m much more interested in this book than I am the forthcoming H&M Alexander Wang collection. I own garments and jewelry from all the previous H&M collections, buying some on eBay and queuing up in long lines to buy others. I still regularly wear my Karl Lagerfeld blouses, Stella McCartney jackets, Viktor & Rolf dresses & my H&M Versace Jewelry. Pieces from these budget designer collections have proved to be a good investment for business and casual wear. I’ll always be glad I was able to purchase the Isabel Marant smoking jacket, my Matthew Williamson Peacock dress and my Jimmy Choo bag & shoes from H&M.
In 2004, the Karl Lagerfeld was the first designer for H&M. His collection changed fashion forever by bringing luxury style to a new audience at affordable prices. “Taste and looking chic is no longer a question of money or how you spend, but how you create a unique sense of style” says Lagerfeld. Mr. Lagerfeld was none too pleased that his H&M collection sold out so quickly and that most consumers had no chance to buy it. His collection sold-out in a flash.
The book, The First Ten Years offers dedicated chapters for each H&M designer, readers can expect an insider view of archive materials surrounding each collection. In addition to ad campaigns, quotes and interviews some never before seen materials will be woven into this book. Look for the book November 6, 2014 at select H&M store locations.
