Ivanka Trump Fashion Line Leaving Nordstrom-Few Items Remain
In a statement, Nordstrom has confirmed that they have began phasing out items from Ivanka Trump’s collection. “We’ve said all along we make buying decisions based on performance. We’ve got thousands of brands – more than 2,000 offered on the site alone. Reviewing their merit and making edits is part of the regular rhythm of our business,” the statement says. Although Nordstrom didn’t explicitly say so, money talks and the Ivanka Trump fashion line’s dwindling sales seem to be the result of a consumer boycott.
Before Nordstrom officially confirmed the news, Bloomberg reported via anonymous sources that Nordstrom was pulling the Ivanka Trump fashion line after a very vocal consumer boycott via the “Grab the Wallet” Campaign which has been brilliantly organized on social media by Shannon Coulter.
Although Ms. Trump announced that she was divesting herself of her business stake in her fashion line, website Propublica reports that “Ivanka Trump is still listed in New York state business filings as the chief executive officer of her eponymous jewelry companies in Florida and New York.” That indicates that although Ms. Trump made statements she was separating herself from the business, the legal documents indicate otherwise.
Sources told Bloomberg that Nordstrom “is reducing the amount of Ivanka Trump merchandise it stocks, though some inventory may remain for now, according to the person, who asked not to be identified. Representatives for Nordstrom and Ivanka Trump’s collection both declined to comment.”
A search of the Nordstrom website shows that there are now only 11 Ivanka Trump items in stock. Those 11 items are on sale with reductions of up to 35%. Compare that to October of 2016, before the peak holiday buying season, when the retailer stocked 149 Ivanka Trump items on their website. It seems that after some very vocal complaints over the holidays from consumers (particularly on Twitter) that Nordstrom is just letting Ivanka Trump items die a quiet death and not restocking them.
Personally, I never thought Ivanka Trump belonged in Nordstrom. In my opinion, it simply wasn’t the quality of other brands Nordstrom carries, and the line competed with original designs from name brand designers that Nordstrom carried.
As for Ms. Trump, she has been seen wearing expensive name brand designers like Carolina Herrera for public appearance instead of items from her own fashion line.
