DKNY Fall 2013 Juxtaposed

DKNY has always believed that New Yorkers make their own fashion rules.  The brand’s Fall 2013 collection is a playful mix of bright colors paired with muted fall palettes, then color blocks, and pops of color, including fuchsia.  Everything is truly juxtaposed with black and white followed by bright colors.  This collection is at once fun and flirty, and then practical with over sized anoraks and knits to ward off the fall chill.  DKNY Fall 2013 offers selections for many body types.  The clothes are not just for women who are the size of runway models. There are form fitting dresses that skim every curve, lean chemises for easy wear and over sized jackets almost reminiscent of menswear.

I was particularly impressed by the dresses, including the Camel/White/Black color block dress in felted wool (above, far right.)  This dress gives a nod to Stella McCartney’s illusion dress, but bundles it up for the everyday woman’s fall wardrobe rather than the red carpet.

DKNY Juxtaposed: Animal Jacquard Sweater Ensemble and Quilted Long Dress

Much of the DKNY Fall 2013 collection works, and works beautifully for the career woman or the woman heading out for a special evening.  What doesn’t work quite as well are the animal print jacquard oversized sweaters and skirts (pictured above right. )  A more fashionable juxtaposition of styles were the flowing quilted long dresses paired with black slim pants that stepped out on the runway towards the end of the show.  I liked the layering of the pieces together and the deep blue color of the quilted dress.

For accessories, DKNY showed quilted fold over clutches, color drenched satchels, monkstrap booties and asymmetrical pumps.

DKNY Juxtaposed is a terrific mix of styles and textures.  DKNY Fall 2013 is a collection that is in touch with how women dress to take them from day to night, office to cocktails.  The collection is not just a pose, it’s infinitely accessible.
