The Recessionista Reviews Doo.ri for Macy’s Impulse: A Class Act

Back in mid-February Macy’s launched a collection by designer Doo.ri.   I hadn’t been able to get into the store to check out the garments until this past weekend.   True to my original prediction, the quality of this collection is higher than Jason Wu for Target (in my humble opinion.) Sadly, there hasn’t been the buying frenzy around this very worthy collection that there has been around either Jason Wu for Target or Marni for H&M.   I really like this collection.   There are some great prints for Spring 2012, and some beautiful soft colors and geometric prints.   Some of the more standout dresses were not featured in the ad campaign, so you may never have seen them.   My favorite is this surplus bodice, wrapped blue green dress.

The long-sleeved pleated dress just needs to be paired with a great belt to be a winner. Overall, this collection is full of great go to work and then go out dresses that look sophisticated and well put together. The patterned coats are a bit more fitted,  naturally, because they are tailored, but they are well done.  The coats are sized a bit smaller than the dresses, so if you have the time, do go to the store and try them on to see what looks best on you.  If you don’t have a Macy’s near you, then order two sizes and of course return the one that doesn’t work.   Besides the pleated dress, my other favorites in this collection are the Long Sleeve Geometric Printed Pleated Belted dress and the Scoop Neck Pleated Maxi dress.   With a few exceptions the collection is sizes for Women’s Misses sizes, not Juniors.  Macy’s always makes enough to stock their stores and website, so there is always some in stock either in-store or online. Eventually (probably sooner rather than later), this collection will go on clearance have as other Macy’s Impulse collections and the prices will be reduced.  So keep your eye of this one.   Whether you buy a piece of Doo.ri for Macy’s Impulse at the retail price or on sale, I think the collection is well done. I don’t expect the sleeves to pull out of the armholes or the fabric to fray after one wearing. If you haven’t checked it out, you might want too.
