Reddit Sensation Yvonne Luong shows off the Prom dress she made for her sister.

I made the mistake this year of hanging a gorgeous Elizabeth & James purple silk top in an area where it was exposed to direct sunlight. Guess what happened? The sun bleached the the gorgeous blouse and destroyed the color. Looking for a way to salvage this exquisite top, I turned to YouTube and discovered emerging fashion designer Yvonne Luong.  Yvonne has made a terrific video to show you how to dye clothes at home to revitalize/recycle them. I forgot you can dye at home, as I did it long ago , back in high-school in art class using Rit Dye.   Perking up old or faded clothing with dye is a great way to save money and perk up your wardrobe.   Read on to learn how and see Yvonne’s easy to follow instructions.

Yvonne Luong demonstrates her passion for dying clothes in a new video

Yvonne is an aspiring fashion designer from Wisconsin who created a prom dress for her little sister that got up voted into Reddit stardom and she’s been pursuing her passion ever since. By posting the dress she sewed and designed  for her sister (in a mere 5 days), Yvonne became a social media superstar.  After Reddit readers discovered her,  Yvonne was contacted by American Express’s  to become part of the #PassionProject .  Yvonne’s passion is obviously fashion.  She moved to  New York after high school to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology. While she was quickly recognized at school for her design skills, it was the prom dress that she designed for her sister and posted on Reddit that surfaced Yvonne as an up-and-coming fashion star.

Watch her passion project video her to see  Yvonne Luong demonstrates three ways to transform your clothes, by dyeing them at home in the kitchen.  The video makes it look so easy.  I’ll let you know how I do trying to follow it and revitalize my poor designer blouse!

Thanks  Yvonne for your great tips on how to design and dye clothing for homemade couture!
