I had to do a little Target run tonight to do a return, and ended up checking out the new Tucker for Target line by up and coming designer, Gabby Basora. I’ve always liked Gabby’s wistful, vintage signature prints, but to be honest I wasn’t sure she would be able to translate her vision from silks to polyester for Target. While the old saying that you can’t make a silk purse from a sow’s ear maybe true, Tucker for Target comes very close. I was prepared not to like this one. I am tired of Target bringing in big name designers and doing launch parties with lots of marketing hype (Zac Posen) and then not delivering a quality end product. Tucker for Target by Gabby Basora launched without celebrity fan fare, or big pop-up shops. I believe the clothes are better for it, because the budget seems to have gone into the garments. The prints are more vibrant and beautiful than indicated by the pictures we saw on the Gilt Groupe pre-sale or the Target website. Below are my up close pictures of the two pieces I purchased, the signature floral print blouse and the halter top in floral print.

It seems that by bringing in Gabby Basora to do a collection, Target has gone back to the beginnings of what the Go line was all about, which was to bring young, up and coming designers to the mass market and let consumers discover some treasures that may have been too high priced for them. Gabby Basora started at Barney’s New York and the prices were not under $100.00. Tucker for Target contains many great pieces for under $100.00. And surprise, there are jackets, skirts and dresses that you could even wear to …gasp…work! Yes, not just thigh high dresses that are good for clubbing. The sizing for the most part is more generous than most of the Go Juniors line. For the most part, the sizing is that of Misses garments. There are a few exceptions, some of the dresses, the ones with the Tucker buttons, run small. Two of my top picks are pictured below, the floral halter top and the Persian lamb bomber jacket. I didn’t buy the Persian lamb jacket because I am still wearing my Behnaz Sarafpour Target Persian lamb jacket from a few years ago, but I like the Tucker version. And this little jacket has a great lining that matches one of the collection’s dresses.

My favorites from this collection, other than what I have already mentioned are, the Butterfly camisole top, the Butterfly dress, the wrap
Trench jacket in green herringbone and the black boucle dress. The pieces I don’t recommend are the
velvet dress in burnout, the signature print diamonds dress, and the tunic sweater in brown stripe. But overall, the collection is very well done, and it’s cohesive. That means you really can mix and match these pieces because the colors work together. You could wear the jackets with many of the blouses, and the sweaters over the blouses. These are fall looks that you can layer. Check out the
outfits section on the Target website to see the possible combinations. Kudos to designer Gabby Basora for delivering such a great collection at budget prices. I was prepared not to like this one at all, but it’s a wonderful, and unexpected, collection that works, and can actually go with you to work. Something we haven’t seen from Target
Go in eons.
