Rebecca Minkoff is holding an online design competition

Social Media continues to play a large part in influencing and helping to evolve fashion trends. Coach, eBay (Derek Lam collection)  and others have used Social Media to crowd source designs before bringing them to market.  Now designer Rebecca Minkoff has announced that she will take inspiration from Tumblr’s artists, models and photographers for her 2014 spring collection show at New York Fashion Week. Tumblr community members and artists are invited to submit their  T-shirt and tote designs for consideration in campaign with Nordstrom. The only stumbling block is that this competition  is time limited.  Submissions must be made to  tumblr@rebeccaminkoff.com by July 25.   Sounds like an online Project Runway design competition, right?  The call is for designs “inspired by our favorite type of woman: strong and feminine.” For more submission details, see Rebecca Minkoff’s Tumblr page.   The winner will receive $5,000 and their design will be featured in Rebecca Minkoff’s 2014 New York Fashion Week show.  All the social sharing of the designs will be worth far more than $5,000 don’t you think?  That’s a very low cost advertising campaign for Ms. Minkoff and Nordstrom.
