Target Releases Altuzarra for Target Lookbook
Target has released the lookbook for their upcoming collaboration with designer Joseph Altuzarra for Target, coming to stores on Sept. 14. As you might expect, the lookbook for this collection looks promising. This collection is more targeted towards the professional, working woman that any I have seen at Target. But how will the pictures translate to quality and fit on the Target racks? That is always the question with Target designer collaborations. There have to be hits and misses in any budget collaboration, because it’s very rare that mass-produced designer collection can be well made with synthetic fabric and factories overseas. And Altuzarra For Target is an ambitious collection for Target to produce in my opinion.
Some of the looks in the lookbook include a Python print blazer with skirt, and a python print dress. The separate pieces are all under $50.00, so you have to wonder how they are going look in person. There’s also a 70’s style Bianca Jagger velvet pantsuit in the collection. For me, I’m skeptical about a budget retailer doing great top stitching and tailoring on a blazer/jacket, however, Target did a very good job on the blazers in the Phillip Lim collaboration, so we’ll have to wait and see how these look on Sept. 14.
I have higher hope for the Purple Orchid Print dress and the Orchid Maxi dress. Target has proven that they are very adapt at producing good looking designer dresses in their previous collections. I like the black embroidered Romainian Dress in Black Swiss Dot for $59.99 with the Croc Effect black belt and I hope that Target can make that look as good on the racks as in the lookbook.
One thing Target does a great job with is marketing these designer collaborations and whetting the public’s appetite for high-fashion and low prices. Whether the Target hype will be fulfilled by quality product on Sept. 14, 2014 remains to be seen.
One group that isn’t buying the hype of the Altuzarra for Target collection is the plus size market. Blogger Chastity Garner Valentine of GarnerStyle has already called for a boycott of the collection because it doesn’t include plus sizes. The nearly 50 items, ranging in price from $17.99 to $89.99 for apparel and lingerie will be sized from 0 to 16 . The largest size will be XL or US size 14-16 (which may run big or small depending on how Target sized this one.) Every Target designer collection has a difference size standard, so you’ll only know how the sizes run when you go to the store and try them on. I haven’t seen real uniformity in Target sizing, especially the designer collaborations , have you?
