Oscars 2018 Best Dressed: Sparkle, Shine and Timeless Classics

After a rather somber awards season this year in Hollywood, the red carpet for the 90th Academy Awards showed a collection of beautiful vibrant, colors and some of Hollywood most iconic actresses showing their timeless style.   This year’s ceremony was unusual and amazing due to the number of stylish women over the age of 50 that light up the red carpet including Jane Fonda, Helen Mirren, Eva Marie Saint, Rita Moreno and Faye Dunway.  These actresses all looked fantastic and wore beautiful gowns.

Jane Fonda and Helen Mirren appeared as presenters at the 90th Academy Awards.

Jane Fonda, at age 80, may have shown off the best posture of the evening on the red carpet.   Ms. Fonda wore a white pearl-dust beaded gown from the 44 Francois Premier collection complimented by beautiful Chopard jewelry. Helen Mirren wore a teal Reem Acra fish-tail gown to present alongside Ms. Fonda.

Some of my favorites on this year’s red carpet. Margot Robbie in Chanel, Jennifer Garner in Versace and Gal Gadot in Givenchy.

Best Actress Nominee Margot Robbie looked beautiful in a Chanel Haute Couture off the shoulder, white gown. Jennifer Garner looked very 1940’s Hollywood in a stunning blue gown by Atelier Versace. Wonder Woman’s Gal Godot wore a sparkling Givenchy gown with fringe which looked like a reincarnation of a gown from the roaring 20’s.

Camila Alves McConaughey took a stand for sustainability at the 90th Academy Awards in a classic Vivienne Westwood archival gown.

There were beautiful environmentally conscious fashions on display as part of the Red Carpet Green Dress Ethical Fashion campaign.   Camila Alves McConaughey wore a classic Vivienne Westwood archival gown in support of Suzy Amis Cameron’s Red Carpet Green Dress (RCGD) ethical fashion campaign. The Vivienne Westwood dress was an ivory silk faille moire asymmetric gown with tulle petticoat.  “By encouraging the revitalization of archival gowns, I’m making the “old” new again and finding beauty that already exists,” said Ms. Alves.

Zoey Deutch in an archival Elie Saab supporting the Red Carpet Green Dress initiative.

Zoey Deutch wore an Elie Saab archival gown with vintage details, styled by Elizabeth Stewart. The archival piece was embellished with silver silk threads, sequins and vintage beads from Mr. Saab’s Beirut atelier. The natural hand-dyed color of the dress are a tribute to the untouched beauty of the Indian culture with slowly embroidered handmade patterns.  The embroidery techniques used are passed on from one generation to another.  This particular dress was a stunning piece and its great to see something so beautiful coming out of the designer’s archives and onto the red carpet to be enjoyed.

Allison Janey looked every inch an Oscar winner in her red Reem Acra gown. The gown had a stunning heart shaped neckline and  dramatic floor length, renaissance styled sleeves.  The beauty of her gown and its elegance were in stark contract to the drabness of the clothing her character in I, Tonya wore.

Emily Blunt in Schiaparelli Couture.

One of my favorite looks was Emily Blunt in a diaphanous, pale blue Schiaparelli Couture gown with a vintage styled high-neck and flutter sleeves.  The dress was unusually restrained and lovely,  complimented by Chopard earrings.
