WGSN Fashion Predictions for NYFW Spring 2013

Can anyone really predict fashion trends? I don’t know but WGSN is taking a run at it like the psychic hotline of fashion.
WGSN calls itself the leading fashion forecaster for top brands like D&G, Paul Smith, Tommy Hilfiger, Topman, Gap, H&M, Puma and countless others. They are the Official Trend Sponsor of Fashion Week 2012. Two of WGSN’s runway analysts Maren Hartman (former consultant for Sex & the City) and Sally Lohan (Bravo’s “Launch My Line,” trend expert) expect to see several key item trends on this year’s runways including:
— Cropped tapered pants: Pants will have a new sense of subtle volume, with sporty details such as drawstrings added which will update basic silhouettes and create a fresh look.
— Tailored coordinates: The look of coordinates will evolve into a more sophisticated and glamorous style.
— Longer-length shorts: Shorts will have a tailored slim-fit cuffed short with flat-front detailing and a medium rise.
— Shirt dresses: Silhouettes will be designed for everyone in mind, from minimal looks with utility snaps and sharp detailing, to military and safari updates, with a cinched waist and/or trench details.
— Woven tees: Tees will have a simple round neck coupled with a wider square-cut cocooning sleeve.
I don’t think these predictions are a revelations to the average consumer of fashion, as a lot of this is already in market. However, it’s always interesting to see what the “experts” forecast. As New York runway shows kick off today, you can see for yourself what’s coming up. Much of New York Fashion Week is being streamed via the Internet today. Check out First Comes Fashion for a show schedule. I’m looking forward to seeing shows from TADASHI SHOJI SS13 and Costello Tagliapietra today.
