A Red Carpet Look for $23.00 US? Becky G in Missguided

When I started writing The Recessionista in 2008, no young Hollywood starlet would appear on the red carpet in a mass market, off the rack, low-priced dress. But as thrift steadily becomes the new chic, there’s more and more budget fashion walking down the red carpet these days. Singer Becky G may have showed off the lowest priced red carpet look yet when she rocked Missguided’s Monta Premium Sequin Cut Out Dress at the Young Hollywood Awards in Los Angeles last night.  The dress is now on sale at the Missguided website for about $23.00 US.   British Retailer Missguided has been making a big buzz about their low-priced “Sweet Deal” fashions and Becky G’s look proves that they may indeed be a low-priced leader for trendy fashion.   Is this a classic look? Hell no.  But for a young fashionista on a budget with a trim figure, it’s a on point for a night out.
