It’s that time again Los Angeles Fashion Week is here!  Although LA Fashion Week is nothing new, some people still don’t realize that it happens twice a year (March and October) to highlight all the cool creations from the left coast.  It’s no small feat independent, young designers to unite as a collective to put on these shows, like Concept LA. This year’s menu of shows is very much worth checking out. There are a couple of reasons. One is just the spectacle of beauty in the art of fashion. Some of my favorites like Sue Wong, Jen Awad, Gypsy05 and Alternative Apparel will be showing. There will also be up and coming designers showing. These talents bring us refreshing ideas about how to spruce up for spring. And once you have those ideas, well then you are off an running to look for lower priced versions if you like the look but don’t like the price. Or, if you have the courage to be frugal you can just wait until the following season when some of the stuff will show up at Loehmann’s Back Room.

Check the calendar of events to see what coming up for this week through next week. Here are a few highlights on my list. For the most comprehensive listing, check FashionWeekLA.com

10/13 – Sue Wong SS12 Preview – Red Carpet//West Hollywood (invite only)

10/13 – 17 – Concept Fashion Week installations and presentations at Ace Gallery.  Designers include Jen Awad and Mike Vensel.

10/14 – Project Ethos fashion show featuring both music and art will be at  House of Blues benefiting breast cancer.  $1 of every Pink Carpet ticket will be donated to Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) and the event will raise awareness for SU2C’s mission.

The downtown Los Angeles Fashion District where  most of the events occur is a rather special place and holds some excellent deals for locals. There’s the California Mart (open at special times to the general public) and the overall Fashion District both always open on Saturday for retail shopping.
